Historical mortar and pestle in Myagdi awaits identification, promotion and conservation



MYAGDI: A historical mortar and pestle belonging to kings of the then Parbat Estate has been found at Dholthan area of Puladanda in Beni Municipality-5 in Myagdi district.

The historical goods dating back to nearly 500 years and linked with the legacy of the Parbat kings await identification, promotion and conservation.

The stone-made mortar and pestle has been left in the lurch at the open space at Puladanda.

Local Ram Bahadur Baniya shared that the mortar and pestle were used to grind rice and other crops to feed the then Parbat king Dimba Bam Malla (earlier Dilip Bam Malla) and his families.

Chetra Bahadur Bhandari, a researcher from Myagdi, who found the historical mortal and pestle, posted its picture on social networking following which the number of visitors at Puladanda has increased lately.

The Jagannath Temple established by Parbat King Dimba Bam Malla at Dholthan area also needs preservation and promotion as Ram Bahadur Baniya, chairperson of Jagannath Temple Management Committee, said that the Temple is important historically and religiously.

The Cavehill area above the Dholthan offers panoramic view of mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna among others, informed Shiva Baniya, another local.

The temples, goods and places at Dhorthan with historical, religious and archeological and touristic significance await promotion, conservation and promotion, concluded Baniya. RSS
