Nepal Bar holding emergency meeting to dwell on SC’s latest development

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) is holding a meeting to dwell on the latest developments of the Supreme Court (SC) today.

NBA has called an emergency meeting to this effect in the afternoon today.

The hearing on cases scheduled for today could not take place after 14 judges held a separate meeting. Supreme Court judges have been upping the ante against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana for his alleged role in demanding a share in the ministerial portfolios and in constitutional bodies.

Supreme Judges who had decided to boycott the full court meeting summoned Chief Justice Rana are holding a meeting. Even though Rana assigned 13 Justices to hear on seven cases, no benches are likely to carry out duties since they are still engaged in the meeting.

Talking to Khabarhub, a Justice on the condition of anonymity said Supreme Court judges are holding discussions on various issues in the meeting in a way they are indirectly disobeying the judicial leadership.

They have been demanding that Chief Justice Rana step down paying the way for the judicial stalemate arguing that the Chief Justice cannot save the dignity of the judiciary.
