UML protest obstructs discussion on budget in Karnali

SURKHET: The CPN-UML has obstructed the scheduled discussion on the budget at Karnali Province Assembly again.

According to sources, UML blocked the 12th sitting of the provincial parliament on Friday saying that the reinstated lawmakers from the party did not join the opposition’s seat in the assembly.

Due to UML’s disturbance, the scheduled clause-wise discussion on the province budget has been disrupted even 11 days after the budget was introduced.

At the beginning of the Friday’s province assembly meeting, UML Karnali’s Chief Whip Gulab Jung Shah claimed that the ruling CPN-Maoist Center’s allegation that UML had blocked the parliament was false.

“There is only one CPN-UML party in the parliament, the party’s decision is to join the opposition; so four other lawmakers of our party also should sit in the opposition seats,” Shah said, adding, “They need to abide the party’s decision and refrain from joining the government.”

As soon as Shah spoke, UML lawmakers got up in protest and restricted the discussion on the budget.

Though Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi urged to discuss the important issue like budget, UML lawmakers protested.

Citing the continuous obstruction from the lawmakers, province Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi announced that the meeting was adjourned till 2 pm on July 27.
