Rahul Gandhi congratulates Nepali mountaineers for K2 ascent



KATHMANDU: Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has congratulated Nepali mountaineers for setting a record for the first winter ascent of Mount K2 in Pakistan.

“Congratulations to the team and to Nepal. For the achievement and the superb attitude,” Gandhi said in a tweet posting a video in which mountaineers are seen heading to the summit singing the Nepali national anthem.

Mountaineers Nirmal Purja, Gelje Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, Mingma G Sherpa, Sona Sherpa, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Pem Chhiri Sherpa, Dawa Temba Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa, and Dawa Tenjing Sherpa had made it to the summit of the second-highest mountain in the world on January 16.
