Prachanda-Nepal faction ‘overwhelmed’ with EC’s decision on NCP

KATHMANDU: The decision of the Election Commission (EC) to reject the claims of both factions of the Nepal Communist Party that theirs is the genuine one seems acclaimed by the Prachanda-Nepal faction.

Citing that the Commission has stated it recognizes NCP constitution and the list of Central Committee Members as submitted to the commission at June 6, 2018, NCP Prachanda-Nepal faction claimed to get the formal recognition from the EC as they hold the majority of the Central Committee Members and Standing Committee Members.

Speaking at Province 2 level gathering of the NCP, newly-appointed Chairman of Prachanda-Nepal faction Madhav Kumar Nepal claimed that his group comprises 70 percent of the central committee members as listed in the EC then.

He remarked that whether the Commission recognizes him as the Chairman or not the fact that it has accepted the concept of two chairmen and the party’s authenticity on the basis of the list registered there in May 2018, Prachanda-Nepal faction will get formal recognition as NCP from the commission.

“The commission has recognized the 441-member Central Committee and the disciplinary provisions as submitted in the Election Commission in May 2018,” former Prime Minister Nepal told in the gathering in Kathmandu, “As the commission has mentioned the provision of two chairmen, I will retain the post soon.”

He pointed out that Prime Minister Oli has been dismissed from the post of party chairman by the majority of members of the central committee; hence, he has no chance of getting recognition as the party Chairman.

“As you (PM Oli) have been sacked from party chairman’s post by the majority of the Central Committee Members, you have no chance again,” NCP Prachanda-Nepal faction’s chairman Nepal added, “Oli, leave Baluwatar(PM’s residence) and take rest at your home now.”
