23 UML lawmakers join protest against HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU: 23 lawmakers of the ruling CPN-UML have signed the writ petition against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in the recommendation of the party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli.

According to sources, 23 UML lawmakers signed in Singha Durbar against the dissolution of HoR and joined the opposition alliance to file writ petition in Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.

Among the lawmakers who signed the petition are Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Ghana Shyam Bhusal, Surendra Pandey, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Birodh Khatiwada, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Som Prasad Pandey, Krishna Lal Maharjan and Jhapat Rawal.

Similarly, Niradevi Jairu, Sarala Yadav, Kalyani Khadka, Laxmi Chaudhary, Kalila Khatun, Pushpa Kumari Karna Kayastha, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, Yagya Sunuwar, Deepak Prakash Bhatt, Narayan Khatiwada and Metmani Chaudhary also signed the writ petition seeking reinstatement of the parliament.

Out of the 26 lawmakers who supported Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba for the post of Prime Minister, 23 have signed a writ petition against the dissolution of the parliament.

According to UML sources, Yogesh Bhattarai, Gokarna Bista, Pavitra Niraula Kharel and Ganesh Pahadi have not signed the petition.

The opposition alliance comprising Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Rastriya Janamorcha, along with the lawmakers of Nepal-Khanal faction of ruling UML filed a writ petition demanding SC to scrap President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s dissolution of House of Representatives on Friday midnight.
