Health Ministry recommends immediate lockdown in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has recommended a one-month lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley saying that the coronavirus infection is getting out of control.

The Ministry has suggested immediate lockdown for at least four weeks saying the situation could worsen and the current health system in Nepal could not cope with the situation.

Ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel, the CCMC coordinator, will brief Prime Minister KP Oli on the latest situation this afternoon to take a decision on the health ministry’s recommendation.

After discussions with the Prime Minister, the government will take a decision on the lockdown.

The CCMC has not been able to take a decision on lockdown despite the suggestion that the COVID-19 epidemic is on the rise and has reached alarming proportions in India.
