Vice President Pun “violates” diplomatic norms by participating in CPC’s program

KATHMANDU: In what can be dubbed as a violation of diplomatic decorum, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun attended a program organized by the Chinese Communist Party on Monday.

Vice President Pun also made a speech at the event through virtual media. He gave a 15-minute speech in the program.

Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have expressed ignorance about the Vice President’s participation in the Chinese Communist Party’s program.

Diplomatic experts, on the other hand, have said that the Vice President’s participation in the meeting of a foreign party as a leader of a particular party in Nepal is against diplomatic norms.

Meetings and discussions between Chinese government officials and diplomatic officials as Vice President are part of the regular process of conducting diplomacy.

However, foreign affairs experts say it is “inappropriate” for the country’s Vice President to participate in a program organized by a party of a foreign country.
