SUNSARI: Ten thousand tree saplings have been planted in Sunsari on Thursday.

Commemorating the 43rd memorial day of Puspalal Shrestha, Nepal’s communist founder, National Youth Federation (NYF) organized the district-wide tree saplings plantation function.

According to Arun Gurung, the district chairperson of NYF, all local units of NYF were engaged in the plantation drive all around the district.

He said barren public lands and areas with scant forest were main venues for tree sapling plantation.

Plantation was carried out in two Sub-Metropolitan Cities, four municipalities and two rural municipalities of the district, informed Sunil Karki, the media focal person of the plantation drive.

He added, ”We planted in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Inaruwa Municipality, Duhabi Municipality, Ramdhuni Municipality, Barahakshetra Municipality as well as two rural municipalities namely Koshi Rural Municipality and Gadhi Municipality covering all eight local governments.”

Karki said one thousand tree saplings along with protective bamboo bucket were planted in each of the local unit of the district.

Karki said additional two thousand tree saplings were planted in Sardu watershed area of Dharan.

”Sardu watershed area is recently taken back from land mafia after winning legal battle in time of former minister Padma Aryal,” said Karki, ”Therefore, we gave high priority to plant in this important area.”
