JSP Chair Thakur welcomes ordinance on citizenship, dismisses EC meeting

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has welcomed the ordinance on citizenship.

After President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued the ordinance on Sunday afternoon, JSP Chairman Mahantha Thakur issuing a press statement welcomed the ordinance materialized at his own initiative. He expressed happiness that millions of citizens deprived of citizenship will now get citizenship.

The statement said, “The children of millions of Nepali mothers and the children of born Nepali citizens who have been deprived of citizenship have got the opportunity to finally get it after years of waiting, continuous struggle and efforts.”

On a different note, Thakur has also refuted the decision of the Executive Committee (EC) meeting that sought clarification from Thakur and other leaders. The meeting chaired by another JSP Chair Upendra Yadav Saturday decided to take action against leaders close to Thakur.

Thakur dismissed the Executive Committee meeting and refused to comply with its decisions.
