JSP’s Thakur-Mahato faction likely to join government

KATHMANDU: The Mahantha Thakur and Rajendra Mahato faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party is likely to join the Prime Minister KP Oli-led government.

The two leaders have expedited talks with Prime Minister Oli of late.

JSP sources said that Thakur and Mahato have discussed power-sharing issues, among others with PM Oli during their series of meetings over the past few days.

The JSP leaders are set to join the government under Article 76(5) of the Constitution.

However, the JSP leaders have been reiterating that their key demands, including citizenship, the release of its jailed cadres, and constitutional amendments should be met before they join the government.

The source said that PM Oli is likely to give 10 ministerial portfolios to the JSP.
