UML’s 19-member SC sans women leaders

KATHMANDU: The 19 member-Standing Committee (SC) of ruling CPN-UML has been without a woman leader.

Paving way for further criticism of Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli for lacking harmony in his words and deeds, the Friday meeting of the party’s 10th General Convention Organizing Committee held at PM Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar has reconstituted SC sans woman representatives.

Often advocating for inclusiveness, equality, social justice and ensuring the representation of the people of all sectors and communities, UML has failed to keep its promise of inclusion this time as well.

Earlier, 22 member-SC of the party that prevailed till May 16, 2018 had Astha Laxmi Shakya as the only woman leader in it.

PM Oli led faction of UML formed 19 member-SC on Friday including four former Maoist Center leaders. However, the leaders sympathetic to the party’s disgruntled Nepal-Khanal faction have not been included in the new committee.
