136 foreigners expelled in past eight months



KATHMANDU: The government has deported as many as 136 foreigners who entered the country on a tourist visa during the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Department of Immigration, foreign nationals entering the country on tourist visas were found to be involved in various restricted activities such as unlawful overstay, money laundering, banking offense and drug peddling, among others.

Of late, data shows a high number of Chinese nationals being expelled from the country, Director General Ramesh KC of the Immigration Department said.

An expelled foreigner is barred from re-entry for up to 10 years, depending upon the offense committed.

Over 42,000 foreigners have entered the country under 13 different headings over the past eight months.

Of them, tourists visas were issued to 20,153 people.
