Bangladesh faces Kyrgyzstan in Three Nations Cup opener

KATHMANDU: Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan Olympic teams will face each other in the opening match of the Three Nations Cup 2021 on Tuesday.

A pre-match conference of the tournament was held at Soaltee Hotel on Monday.

Kyrgyzstan Olympic team head coach Zholdoshov Nurbek said the tournament is going to be a good learning experience for his team. “Our preparations have not been the way we wanted but we hope to put on a good performance against the national team of Bangladesh and Nepal,” said Nurbek.

Bangladesh head coach James Day said he has some new faces in the squad. “Nepal are favorites for the title as they are the host nation. We hope to improve our performance. That is our priority for now,” said Day.

Nepal’s national team coach Bal Gopal Maharjan said their ambition is to improve from their last performance against Bangladesh. “We have a good squad and prepared well. We know a good performance will bring a good result,” said Maharjan.

Nepal’s vice-captain Rohit Chand said they are excited to play in front of the home crowd after such a long time. “They are good teams but we have trained well and prepared well for the tournament,” Chand also said.

Following the opening match between Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, Nepal will play against Kyrgyzstan on March 25 before taking on Bangladesh on March 27. The winner and the runner-up of the group will play the final on May 29.
