KATHMANDU: The government is working on a provision to make helmets compulsory for the pillion riders on a two-wheeler.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management has prepared a draft according to the ‘Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2077 BS’ making such a provision.

If the law is enacted, pillion riders, too, will be required to wear helmets.

This is not the first time that two-wheeler pillion riders have to wear helmets.

Earlier, even though the government had made such a provision, it was later withdrawn amid protests and the court’s order.
