MCC not in priority list in FM Khadka’s New York visit

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka has said that the US grant mega project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is not in a priority list in his ongoing US visit.

Speaking to reporters after taking office on Wednesday, Minister Khadka said he was going to New York to attend the UN General Assembly.

The pros and cons of the Rs 500 million MCC grant are being discussed in Nepal.

While the issue was under discussion in Nepal, MCC Vice President Fatima Sumar had visited Nepal only last week.

Foreign Minister Khadka, leading Nepali delegation, is leaving for New York on Wednesday.

Realizing that a minister was needed for sideline talks during the General Assembly, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had made Khadka his Foreign Minister on Wednesday.

Prior to flying US, Minister Khadka said that since foreign policy is a matter of national interest, it would be taken forward with the consensus of all parties, in consultation and consensus with all leaders.
