Foreign Minister Dr Khadka takes oath of office

Assumes office after taking oath



KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka has taken the oath of office and secrecy Wednesday.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office to Foreign Minister Dr. Khadka this afternoon.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had appointed NC leader Dr Khadka as Foreign Minister.

Newly-appointed Minister Khadka is scheduled to fly to New York today itself to take part in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Prime Minister Deuba appointed Dr. Khadka as the Foreign Minister following consultation with the ruling coalition parties.

Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka assumes office on Wednesday.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Khadka was born in Bhojpur on March 20, 1949.

He started his political career in 1966 with his association in the student movement.

He has been active in the Nepali Congress party politics starting from the party’s student department.

Dr Khadka is presently the central member of the party. He was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly from Udayapur constituency -1 in the election in 2008 and also elected to the Constituent Assembly for the second time from the same constituency in 2013.

Dr Khadka was elected the Member of the House of Representatives from the same constituency in 2017.

He was the Minister for Urban Development in 2013 and served as the advisor to the then Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in 1999.

Dr Khadka has also served as the Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) in 2000. He also served jail terms five times at different times as well as faced numerous arrests in Kathmandu and Biratnagar in course of the political movement for the establishment of democracy.

Dr Khadka, who has a special interest in the study and social service along with politics, is active in politics since four decades.

He holds a PhD degree in Economics and is considered an influential leader in the Nepali Congress.

He is decorated with various medals including the Constituent Assembly Medal.
