RPP, UML disagree on proposal to upgrade Damak into sub-metropolis structure

KATHMANDU: The proposal to develop the Damak Municipality into a sub-metropolis by integrating the neighboring Kamal rural municipality has been rejected by two political parties.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the CPN (UML) have expressed disagreement over the decision of the local government towards that end.

In a press statement today, RPP Kamal rural municipality chair Deepak Kharel accused the municipality of not consulting with all political parties and hurting the sentiments of co-existence while taking a decision on this matter. The decision was unilateral, he said.

Similarly, the CPN (UML) has also objected to the proposal to upgrade the municipality. As the party said, the municipality took a decision regarding the matter bypassing the voices of all political parties.

Party’s village chair Bheem Prasad Rai and secretary Hari Dhakal through a press statement to follow the norms of equality and co-existence while taking a decision having a long-term impact.

It may be noted that the recent meeting of the municipality decided to integrate the rural municipality and municipality to make a sub-metropolis.

The municipality has already sent a letter to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration for further action to execute the decision.
