22 lawmakers of Nepal faction to submit clarification to CPN-UML

KATHMANDU: Twenty-two lawmakers, including CPN-UML senior Madhav Kumar Nepal, are set to furnish their clarification to the party Thursday.

A leader of Nepal faction confirmed that the reply would be sent today itself.

The 22 lawmakers of Nepal faction had crossed the floor to cast vote in favor of a vote of confidence motion tabled by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba Sunday. Deuba was appointed as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution.

The UML has sought clarification from them for colluding with opposition alliance. However, the clarification sought has not labeled the charge of crossing floor.

The Supreme Court, when it reinstated the parliament, ruled that as per Article 76 (5) lawmakers did not have to abide by party whip and set a precedent by freeing lawmakers to cast their vote regardless of their political affiliation.
