KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to seek clarifications from 11 lawmakers, including Madhav Kumar Nepal.
A meeting of UML Standing Committee held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar Saturday decided to ask Nepal faction parliamentarians why they gave their consent to remove the party chairman from the PM’s post and supported the opposition party’s claim to form the government.
According to UML Spokesperson Pradip Gyawali, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Rawal, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Kalyani Khadka, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Karna, Laxmi Chaudhary, Kalila Khatun and Nira Jairu have been asked to submit their explanations by Monday morning.
He added that the party would take further decision after scrutinizing the explanations.
As many as 26 lawmakers had supported Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s clam to form government Friday. However, clarification has been sought from only 11. When asked why, Gyawali said there were conflicting statements from some of the lawmakers as they issued public statements Friday. “We’ll talk to others individually,” he added.
