NFMTC in Bajura lacks subsidised rice to sell

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Food Management and Trading Company (NFMTC) in Bajura is struggling to meet the increasing demand for subsidized rice as the stock it had has depleted.

There is an increasing demand for rice amid the prohibition order, but the Company lacks rice two days ago, said the Company chief Meghraj Ojha. All 4,800 quintals of rice the Company had in stock have been finished, he said.

The problem has surfaced as the Sanphe-Martadi road through which the supply is transported to Martadi is in a sorry state, he said.

The supply however would arrive in one week if the rain stops, he said. The Company had sold one-kilogram rice (coarse grain rice) for Rs 45 and Jeera Masino (fine grain) rice for Rs 66.

However, the Company’s Kolti branch and the sale center at Kawadi have stock of 1,100 quintals and 1,000 quintals respectively, said the Company.

Similarly, 90 quintals more have been supplied to Kolti from Surkhet, said the Kolti branch chief Nabin Acharya. There would not be a shortage of rice in the area during the prohibitory order, he said.
