KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur-led faction of the party has welcomed Prime Minister KP Oli’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).
Speaking on the latest political development on Saturday, JSP leader close to Chairman Thakur, Laxman Lal Karna said that his party lauds the decision to dissolve the HoR for it was the best option the PM and nation have to get the fresh mandate.
“ If the the HoR cannot give the government, why to keep it occupied?” Karna said, adding, “The government had to offer the option, and going for poll is the best option it has.”
Revealing the ongoing conflict in JSP, PM Oli had submitted the list of JSP lawmakers as verified by party Chairman Mahantha Thakur when another Chairman Upendra Yadav had reached at President’s office at Sheetalniwas claiming his party was with the opposition alliance led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
However, JSP leader Karna alleged that some forces in CPN-UML and JSP were seeking anarchy and instability and claimed the prime minister had no choice but to dissolve the House of Representatives.
He said that as the government was fulfilling its demands, his party was positive about joining the government.
Lawmaker Karna defended the President’s move stating that it is the discretion of the President to decide whether a government cannot be formed under Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.
