NC leader Koirala flays President’s move to declare mid-term polls

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has criticized President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) and announce the mid-term polls.

Commenting on the announcement of the mid-term polls, NC central member Dr Shekhar Koirala has said President Bhandari blatantly breached the Constitution rather than becoming the custodian of it.

Taking to twitter, Koirala said, “The move taken by the President is unconstitutional and it has pushed the country into a perpetual abyss.”

President Bhandari has dissolved the House of Representatives on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and announced the mid-term elections for November 12 and 19, a year ahead of schedule.

Issuing a statement, the President’s Office said the President dissolved the House as per Article 76(7) of the Constitution on the recommendation of the cabinet.
