DoT starts issuing climbing permits for spring season

KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has started issuing mountaineering permits for the spring season.
The Department said it has issued mountaineering permits to five expedition teams from Nepal and India to climb four mountains.

According to the Department, five climbers have received permits to climb Mt Everest, four for Mt Pumori, four for Mt Nuptse, and two to climb Mt Lhotse.

Meanwhile, the expedition teams are required to submit an online application and fee to the Department, it said.

So far, the Department has given prior approval to 12 people — three people from one team of Nepal and four expedition teams of India.

The spring expedition season starts on March 20. The Department charges US$11,000 per person for foreign climbers for expeditions to Mt Everest during this season.

Likewise, Nepali climbers should pay Rs 75,000 per person for the spring season, according to the Department.
