SC seeks original documents from EC and Speaker in UML’s writ against 14 defecting lawmakers

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (EC) has ordered the Election Commission (EC) and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota to submit original documents on the writ filed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli.

A division bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Dr. Kumar Chudal Tuesday demanded original documents of Speaker’s decision related to the dismissal of the 14 UML lawmakers facing party action. It also ordered the EC to submit the original documents of CPN-Unified Socialist’s registration.

Questioning the role of the Speaker and the impartiality of the EC in the action taken against 14 lawmakers, including Madhav Kumar Nepal, UML Chair Oli had filed a writ in the court demanding to revoke their membership.

Earlier, the SC had sought the Election Commission’s written response within 15 days on whether the registration process of the CPN-Unified Socialist was in line with due processes.
