SC to give final verdict on JSP Lumbini lawmakers’ case on July 5

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court will conduct a full hearing on a case related to four lawmakers of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) in Lumbini Province on July 5.

A single bench of Justice Nahkul Subedi on March 17, 2021, ordered the reinstatement of lawmakers Bijay Yadav, Santosh Pandey, Suman Rayamajhi and Kalpana Pandey, who had lost their seat in Lumbini Provincial Assembly (PA) after JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav faction took action against them.

The SC has yet to give a final verdict on the case.

A division bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Hari Prasad Phunyal on Monday passed the order to conduct a full hearing on July 5, citing that the court was still awaiting Lumbini Provincial Election Commission’s written response on the case.

The four JSP lawmakers had moved the court after they were expelled from the party and lost provincial parliamentarian status. Of the four, three are currently Ministers in the provincial government.
