Hospitality industries to entertain electricity fee waiver of lockdown period



KATHMANDU: The government has granted a waiver on the electricity demand fee to hotels and restaurants hard-hit during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers today approved the proposal submitted by the Finance Ministry in this regard.

However,  the electricity demand fee waiver will be entitled only  to the restaurants and hotels that have regularly renewed registration and cleared all government taxes.

As per the today’s decision, the hotels and restaurants will get a 100% waiver from March 22, 2020, to September 16, 2020. The government had imposed a nationwide lockdown during the period to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Likewise, the industries will get 50% off on the electricity fee from September 17, 2020, to February 12, 2021.
