Saptari Police nabs 505 fugitives



SAPTARI: Saptari Police has been successful in arresting 505 people who were on the run after being sentenced to jail and penalty for various offenses.

During the first five months of the current fiscal year, 505 fugitives were arrested from various parts of the district, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhubaneswar Prasad Shah said.

In this regard, Mohammad Sahadat,20, a resident of Surunga municipality-5 in the district was arrested. He was escaping since being found guilty of rape.

According to the District Police Office, the highest number of people on the run is related to the offense of physical assault following by road accident-related death, murder, defamation, fraud, rape, and transaction.

From the fugitives, a total of 56 years 6 months and 22 days of imprisonment and Rs. 1.2 million in fine were recovered. All those arrested were presented before the court and sent to Rajbiraj prison for completing their respective sentence, DSP Shah said.

Also during the same period, the office recovered revenue worth rs. 23.4 million from vehicles imported without paying the customs duty.

Meanwhile, a total of 437 cases of crime were registered in the district during the reference period. The data however is lower compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, the Office has said.
