JSP’s Thakur faction draws govt’s attention to fulfill various demands

KATHMANDU: Mahantha Thakur faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has drawn the attention of the government to address its various demands, including constitution amendment and freeing Resham Chaudhary and other cadres.

Thakur faction supported the motion of vote of confidence tabled by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba Sunday stating that PM Deuba committed to address their demands.

An Executive Committee meeting of Thakur faction Tuesday decided to draw attention of the government to fulfill their demands. Their demands include amendment of the constitution, withdrawal of cases and release of the cadres, making public the report of the Lal Commission, resolution of citizenship issues and rehabilitation of the locals on the basis of population at local levels.

Sources said that Thakur faction of JSP was divided about joining the government and the Executive Committee meeting did not decided on the matter, citing that neither the Nepali Congress (NC) nor PM Deuba had approached them with a proposal to that end.

The Executive Committee meeting also thanked ex-PM KP Sharma for withdrawing some of the cases against cadres, issuing citizenship ordinance and setting up a taskforce for constitution amendment.

JSP Thakur faction also demanded free vaccination to all Nepalis, financial relief packages to affected and easing movement at the Nepal-India border.
