Bakar Eid to be celebrated on Wednesday



KATHMANDU: The biggest festival of Muslims, Bakar Eid (Eid-al-Adha) is to be celebrated on Wednesday.

It is the second biggest festival after the Eid-al-Fitr. Bakar Eid is celebrated on the 70th day of the Ramadan festival. Financially strong people used to go to Mecca and Medina of Saudi Arabia for the hajj pilgrimage.

On this festival, Muslims offer sacrifice to God in order to make him happy. As per the religious belief Ibrahim, the messenger of God, was about to sacrifice his son Ishmael, whom he had received at the age of 90 from his wife Hazara, obeying the command of God.

But the moment he was about to sacrifice his son, a voice from heaven stopped him and allowed him to make something else as a ‘great sacrifice’.

This festival is celebrated in commemoration of God’s saving the life of Ishmael.
