NC leaders suggest Deuba to hold talks with Nidhi for finalizing leadership candidate

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have suggested party President Sher Bahadur Deuba to hold one-on-one talks with party Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi as two nominations for party president from the same camp wasn’t viable.

Both Deuba and Nidhi have made known their intent for running for party presidency at the 14th General Convention to be held from September 1-4. Deuba called leaders of provinces 1 and 2 leaders and Nidhi at his residence in Budhanilkantha Saturday to discuss his candidature in the general convention.

Deuba continued discussions with NC central members of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces about his candidature and sought their support Sunday. Aspirations of Nidhi, who is ranked second in the NC, were also discussed. Nidhi told Deuba Saturday that he would also contest for leadership in the upcoming general convention.

Both Nidhi and Deuba are from the same camp within the party.

NC leaders, in the discussion Sunday, told Deuba that two nominations from the same camp was not a good idea and insisted on finalizing one candidate for the party President’s post. For this, they suggested Deuba to talk to Nidhi, and finalize the candidature through consensus.

The leaders taking part in Sunday’s discussions assured Deuba of facilitation, on their part, in dialogue with Nidhi.

As the 14th general convention is approaching, Deuba is expediting discussions, seeking the support of leaders for his bid to re-run for the presidency.
