As hydel projects suffer from flooding, IPPAN seeks refinancing from NRB

KATHMANDU: The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has urged the government to immediately reconstruct the access roads that are damaged by the recent monsoon flooding creating obstacles to reach the hydropower project sites.

IPPAN’s Chairman Krishna Prasad Acharya has also urged the government to ensure the resumption of the transmission lines affected by the recent flooding.

The government has been further requested to form a high-level mechanism to resolve the issues of the energy sector and to ensure the security of sub-stations built by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Similarly, the IPPAN has asked for promptness on the part of the Insurance Board and Ministry of Finance to facilitate and ease the insurance claim processes.

As some hydropower projects that were about to complete the power development works are unlikely to do so and could take at least a year due to damage in their physical infrastructure and transmission line, Acharya has sought the promotion of refinancing from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

For the security of powerhouses, dams, and other sites, the government is urged to bring programs for river control.
