UML Chairman Oli to lawmakers: Why not remove you from your posts?



KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Oli has in a letter seeking clarification to 32 party lawmakers, including 27 members of the House of Representatives asked as to why they should not be expelled from the parliament.

On Tuesday, Chairman Oli, who is also the Prime Minister, sought clarification from 27 members of the HoR close to the disgruntled Madhav Kumar Nepal faction.

In the letter sent by Chairman Oli, he has alleged the lawmakers of carrying out activities that are against the party.

“I instruct you to submit an explanation within three days with concrete reasons,” the letter has stated.

The letter has also warned of taking further action at any time if the lawmakers continued activities against the party.

Meanwhile, the ruling UML is making preparations to take actions against as many as 32 lawmakers on the charge of carrying out activities against the party interest.

As many as 27 federal lawmakers and five provincial lawmakers will face actions, according to a UML source.

Dispatching letters to the UML lawmakers, the UML has given a two-day deadline to senior Madhav Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Surendra Pandey for their clarifications while the other lawmakers have been given a three-day deadline for their clarifications.

“The list of the lawmakers for seeking their clarifications was prepared on Monday night,” said a source, adding, “If their response were not satisfactory, a Central Committee (CC) meeting to be held on April 23 UML would dismiss them from both the general party memberships and the posts of lawmakers.”

Similarly, the party is taking the same sort of action against five provincial lawmakers for violating the party’s directive in Karnali Pradesh.
