KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader, Shekhar Koirala, who contested for the post of the party president in the 14th General Convention, has become the party’s central committee member.

The statute of the Nepali Congress has made provision for the leader getting the second-highest number of votes after the party president to be automatically a member of the central working committee.

Dr. Koirala has become a central member of the party according to the provision of the party statute.

Deuba was elected president with 2733 votes while Koirala got 1855 votes.

Article 65 of the NC statute says that the leader who gets the second-highest number of votes will be a member of the working committee.

Nepali Congress held its 14th General Convention last week.

So far, only the votes of the office bearers have been counted while the votes of the Central Committee members are being counted.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba can nominate 33 members to the Central Committee as per the party statute.
