Govt to set up at least one medical teaching hospital in each province

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has said it would set up at least one medical teaching hospital in each province by 2024.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, Ministry Co-Spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari informed that the physical infrastructures of Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences and Ramraja Prasad Singh Institute of Health Science were brought to use in Province-2 as per this decision.

Nepal Army Academy of Health Sciences and Kathmandu University Medical School were determined as public medical colleges and scholarship quota fixed as per Medical Education Act, 2075, the Health Ministry said, expressing commitment to implementing the agreements the government made previously for the reform of medical education and health sectors.

Co-Spokesperson Dr Adhikari further stated that the Education Act, 2075 had the provision that medical education in Nepal would be made a non-profit business and the Ministry was firm to materialize it. The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences had begun the admission MBBS program and the infrastructures for the Geta Medical College, and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences was getting finalized.

The process was initiated to update the appointment standard for the office bearers in universities and institutes.

Similarly, the Health Ministry was not for protecting any office bearers of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences found guilty by the report of the investigation committee.
