Three names recommended for post of Health Secretary

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) has recommended the names of three chief specialists at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) for the post of Health Secretary.

A meeting of the promotion committee held at MoFAGA Monday morning recommended Dr. Roshan Pokharel, Dr. Dipendra Man Singh and Dr. Mahendra Prasad Shrestha for the top post of the health group at the MoHP.

The cabinet meeting sitting at 4 pm later Monday is likely to pick one of the recommended names to be the Health Secretary. Of the recommended, Shrestha’s tenure is expiring in two weeks on July 30. The other two, however, have more than three years left before they retire.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, after assuming office, prioritized the health sector to ensure vaccination to all citizens.

During the tenure of then Health Secretary Dr. Pushpa Chaudhary the post of secretary of the health group was scrapped. For almost three-and-a-half years since then, secretaries outside the health group worked at MoHP.
