Mechi Hospital’s OPD closed in protest against assault on physicians

KATHMANDU: Doctors and health professionals of Mechi Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa have closed out patient department (OPD) service agitating against the physical attack on the doctors on duty.

According to the sources, doctors and health workers took to protest demanding the security of the medics on duty.

The sources said that Pushparaj Niraula of Haldibari, Jhapa attacked a doctor working in the emergency ward on Sunday evening alleging that the latter had not paid enough attention to the patients in the emergency ward.

Niraula, who had brought a woman to the hospital for treatment, had attacked Dr. Kebal Kapuri saying that he was late to see the patient in the emergency.

Dr. Ayush Guragain, who works at Mechi Hospital, said that he did not go to work demanding action against the guilty and protection to the medics.

“How can we deliver our service under the gun-point?” protesting doctor asked, adding, “We can’t resume the services unless action is taken against the culprit.”

The medics have filed a police case against the assaulter.
