Govt waives customs duty on Remdesivir

KATHMANDU: The government has waived all taxes, duties and charges on the import of remedial drug Remdesivir used in the treatment against corona.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax on the import of this drug, which falls under the customs sub-heading 3004.90.90, has been waived. However, importers will have to make public the maximum retail price of this drug and distribute it.

The Ministry of Finance also decided that the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies will inspect whether the medicine is used as per the purpose and its price has been adjusted as per the exemption.

Earlier, the Ministry had decided to waive customs duty on the import of medical supplies including oxygen cylinders.
