KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) lawmaker Raj Kishore Yadav stressed introspection by all lawmakers and the government at the fourth meeting of the seventh parliamentary meeting in New Baneshwor Friday.
He said, “Though we gained a democratic republic through political struggles, our systems, institutions, and processes have become weak.”
Reminding NC leader BP Koirala had accepted imprisonment despite being elected the prime minister in the past, he drew attention to the present situation where ministers resigned after facing allegations of corruption.
He also highlighted the need to amend the constitution to incorporate the feelings of all representative sections of the country. “We should not do politics of banishing others,” he said.
He urged the ruling forces to ponder on glaring issues that need to be resolved. He also reminded them that in the future the power equation could change and parties that are in the opposition today could be the ruling forces.
In this connection, he exemplified the arrogant working style of the ruling party after getting people’s mandate and the current times of dissolution of the House of Representatives due to intra-party rift.
He thanked the government for bringing leaders such as CK Raut and Netra Bikram Chand into mainstream politics but reminded that Resham Chaudhary, a leader of the Tharuhat movement, was still languishing in jail.
He urged the government to ponder on the fact that Chaudhary was an elected representative and he deserved to be in the House today along with other elected officials.
And he said the release of Chaudhary should not be understood by the government as a demand of Madhesi parties.
He ended his speech by accusing the government of its reluctant attitude to provide business to the reinstated HoR.
He also thanked the Supreme Court for its decision to reinstate the House in his speech.
