PM Oli should step down on moral ground: NC Chief Whip Khand

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand has vehemently stated that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should step down on the moral ground after the Supreme Court (SC) restored the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the fourth meeting of the seventh parliament session in New Baneshwor today, Chief Whip Khanda said it is disappointing to see Prime Minster Oli still clinging to power even after his unconstitutional move to dissolve the HoR was revoked by the apex court and drew flak from all quarters.

Vehemently coming down on the Oli-led government, Khand said the incumbent government started showing its true color by attacking press freedom and the freedom of expression since the very day Oli took charge of the government.

It first banned people from gathering at Maitighar Mandala and later backed off after the SC issued its verdict ruling that it is their fundamental right to express their views gathering from this spot.

Similarly, Prime Minister’s move to dissolve the HoR constituted a violation against the Constitution after it was restored by the SC but Oli is not ashamed of his act and is still clinging to power despite criticisms from all quarters.

Various second rung leaders from the parties represented in the parliament are delivering their views in the HoR meeting today.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali from the government side, main opposition chief whip Bal Krishna Khand, CPN (Maoist Center) Pampha Bhusal, and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) lawmaker Raj Kishor Yadav are putting forth their views in the meeting.

Similarly, lawmakers Prem Suwal, Durga Paudel, Rajendra Lingden are also scheduled to speak during the meeting.
