NSU demands govt to withdraw price hike of petroleum products

KATHMANDU: Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has demanded the government withdraw the price hike of petroleum products.

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) had hiked the petrol, diesel, and kerosene prices by two rupees per liter effective from Monday midnight.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, NSU President Rajiv Dhungana has asked the government to roll back the price hike.

“We would like to warn the government to immediately reverse the increase in the price of petroleum products that hit the people hard,” Dhungana has remarked in the statement.

However, NOC has tried to defend the price hike saying that the increase is according to the automatic price system due to the increase in the price of petroleum products from India.

NOC has estimated that despite the increase in petroleum products, the corporation has to bear a Rs 490 million loss on a semi-monthly basis.
