KATHMANDU: The government has suspended Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dhananjay Regmi.

Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism Maheshwor Neupane decided to suspend Regmi on the charge of abuse of authority and being involved in financial irregularities.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Ale said Secretary Neupane suspended Regmi in his capacity as chairman of NTB.

Earlier, a clarification was sought from Regmi after he brawled with customs officials at Tribhuvan International Airport over alcohol duty. “Allegations against Regmi will be subject to more investigation,” said Minister Ale.

A meeting of NTB Board of Directors also formed a panel to investigate the allegations against Regmi on Friday.

Regmi was appointed CEO of Nepal Tourism Board when UML leader Yogesh Bhattarai was the Tourism Minister.
