Govt. working for IT development: Minister of Communications



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the government is working for the development of the information technology sector.

Addressing the ICT Awards-2021 ceremony organized by Living with ICT here on Friday evening, he said that the country cannot be developed without the development of information technology.

He also said that the ministry was ready to hold discussions with the stakeholders for the development and expansion of the information technology sector.

Minister Karki said that the ICT Award would help encourage the youth working in the field of information technology and motivate them to develop their talents. He said that proper use of information technology was the challenge of the day and added that everyone should work together in the field of information technology.

Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Dr Baikuntha Aryal, said that the service recipients should be educated as they are not accustomed to information technology even though the government provides services through information technology.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Suresh Acharya, said that the use of information technology should be expanded to provide fast and efficient service to the people.

At the ceremony, Minister Karki, Communications Secretary Dr Aryal and Secretary Acharya presented awards to various people.

Rajan Lamsal, director of Living with ICT, said that the awards were given in 12 different categories for their outstanding work in the field of information technology. The Digital Education ICT Award (from Government) went to Kalika Secondary School Butwal, the Digital Education ICT Award (from Private) to Ratobangla School, Lalitpur, the Digital Services (Private) to Nepal Clearing House Limited and the Digital Services (Government) ICT Award to the Department of Land Management and Records.

Similarly, the Entrepreneur ICT Award was given to Dipesh Pradhan, Nepali Diaspora ICT Award to Nepal Bank Limited, Pioneer ICT Award to Manohar Kumar Bhattarai and Ncell Woman Icon ICT Award to Guna Keshari Pradhan.
