Vote count for CWC members under open category taking place today



KATHMANDU: The vote count for central working committee (CWC) members (open category) under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress is taking place today.

According to Gopal Krishna Ghimire, the coordinator of the NC central election committee, the vote count will begin from 10 am.

As per the provision of the party statute, a total of 35 members will be elected under open category. As many as 99 candidates are contesting the elections for the 35 posts of CWC members under open category.

The NC’s 14th general convention has already finalized the party’s new leadership with vote count results of all 13 office bearers.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected as NC President; Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung are the newly elected two vice presidents; Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma the two general secretaries; Umakanta Chaudhary, Kishor Singh Rathor, Mahendra Yadav, Mahalakshmi Upadhyay (Dina), Jeevan Pariyar, Badri Pandey, Farmullah Mansur and Bhishma Raj Angdembe are the elected eight joint general secretaries of the party.

Vote count of above mentioned 13 office bearers concluded Friday. Two CWC members have already been elected unopposed.

Of the 167-member CWC, voting took place for 134 members while the remaining 33 members will be nominated by the NC president as per the statute of the party.
