KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has granted permission to establish a medical college in Ilam district.
A meeting between a team from the Ministry and the Ilam Hospital Development Committee has tasked Ilam Municipality with managing lands for the project, said Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Ganesh Prasad Baral.
The project site is based in the premises of the hospital. “It seems that upgrading the operating hospital by giving it physical infrastructures will be the best option instead of making entirely new arrangements. However, we have proposed that the Ministry should guarantee the establishment of a medical college in Ilam. Else, lands managed for the project could be left abandoned,” he said.
It requires 500 ropanis of lands for the project. Meanwhile, the municipal executive meeting of the municipality on Monday decided to provide required lands for the project. A land management committee under the leadership of Ilam-9 Ward Chairperson Shyam Krishna Ghimire has been formed.
