Prachanda says he is disappointed by UML leader Gyawali’s statement

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said he is disappointed by the statement made by CPN-UML Secretary Pradeep Gyawali.

Addressing a motion tabled by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to take a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) Sunday, Gyawali accused that the erstwhile CPN-Maoist embraced democracy after they failed to win the people’s war. To this accusation, Prachanda said it was hurtful to everyone party to the peace process.

“Aren’t you one of the three leaders of the UML who agreed with Maoist leaders to form a republic form the Constituent Assembly? You too were in the war once. Didn’t you kill then?” Prachanda questioned Gyawali, adding Gyawali’s demeaning remarks forced him to bring out these details in public.

He wondered if UML leader Gyawali was saying that the peace agreement was wrong. Stating that Gyawali’s statement meant to say that Maoists should not talk about democracy after having lost the war, Prachanda said, “Is he trying to say the Maoists should not take the side of democracy?”

“We lost but did you win? Does it make Nepal’s peace process sustainable?”
