KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam has said that party’s Standing Committee decision to issue a whip against giving vote of confidence to opposition leader and prime minister was wrong.
Vice-Chairman Gautam added the decision to issue the whip was wrong after the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court told that whip would not be applicable during voting as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution. “It would be a mistake to issue the whip after the Supreme Court ruling clarified it,” he said.
A meeting of the UML Standing Committee on Sunday morning that was attended only by leaders close to Chairman KP Sharma Oli directed not to give vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in the parliament session Sunday.
Deuba, who was appointed as the prime minister in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the constitution after the Supreme Court’s order, is taking a vote of confidence today.
