KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to nurture the opposition alliance.
A meeting of NC Central Working Committee (CWC) Friday concluded that the five-party alliance should be strengthened for the defense of democracy and the constitution.
The opposition alliance comprises the NC, CPN-Maoist Center, the CPN-UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction, the Janata Samajwadi Party’s Upendra Yadav faction and the Rastriya Janamorcha.
The CWC meeting formally decided to move ahead with the cooperation with the parties in the alliance. “The CWC approved today’s proposal to build on the alliance, led by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, for protection and preservation of the constitution,” central member NP Saud said after the CWC meet.
A meeting of the Central Working Committee held on March 6, 2008 decided to take the initiative to form a government under the leadership of the party president.
The meeting also approved the revised schedule of the 14th General Convention, fixing the ward convention date for July 27, and the national general convention date for September 1-4 in Kathmandu.
