KATHMANDU:  Medical education reformer Dr. Govinda KC has demanded that the corrupt officials of Kathmandu University (KU) should be tried for abusing the power.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, Dr. KC said that the university officials had gone beyond their jurisdiction by making fake papers to award B&C Medical College with the university’s affiliation.

“The ill intent KU officials have made fake documents of field visit and others abusing their power and have tried to grant affiliation to a private medical college disregarding the provisions in the Medical Education Act,” Dr. KC has said, adding “ KU Vice Chancellor Bhola Thapa and other officials  should be tried for their role in corruption.”

He has accused that the KU officials and the Education Minister are in league to grant affiliation to the college that did not meet most essential criteria.

Dr. KC has also reminded that as per the Medical Education Act, a university cannot grant affiliation to more than five medical colleges and KU has already given affiliation to more than its quota.

Similarly, Dr. KC said that it is reprehensible for KC to try to give illegal affiliation by bypassing the Medical Education Commission by trampling on the provisions of the existing Act.

He has also claimed that the inspection report of Kathmandu University was fake; hence, the decision needs immediate reversal.

“Therefore, we call for the immediate reversal of the fake inspection report made by Kathmandu University and the decision taken on that basis,” KC has stated.

He has demanded that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority  should immediately investigate and take action against KU Vice-Chancellor Thapa and other officials involved in such corruption.
