KATHMANDU: Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has reached the Election Commission again on Sunday.

Leaders Bedu Ram Bhusal and Rajendra Pandey of Nepal-Khanal faction went to the EC today with their grievance regarding party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli’s March 12, 2021, decisions.

Nepal-Khanal faction has held that party Chair Oli’s March 12 decision are not valid and contradict with the Supreme Court’s  (SC) March 7 decision. The SC on March 7 nullified the merger of CPN-UML and Maoist Center and ruled that the two parties existed prior to party unification on May 17, 2018.

PM Oli on March 12 called a meeting of Central Committee (CC) members close to him and added 23 former Maoist leaders to the party’s CC by amending the party’s statute. He had also divested all leaders close to the Nepal-Khanal faction off their key responsibilities from the CC meeting. Moreover, PM Oli also scrapped all office bearers of UML elected from party’s 9th general convention.
